About Littles & Lenses
Hello! I’m Chrystal, I’m a professional photographer of 10+ years, specializing in children, birth/documentary, families, and headshots. Littles & Lenses is photography education resource & academy I founded for my clients in 2015 after I started teaching local photography courses. My local beginner course was born because many of own clients wanted help taking better photos of their kids but has developed into general photography education, business mentoring, and beyond. I firmly believe we rise by lifting others, its one of my guiding principals…so I try my best to help you where I can and I’m always open to reader questions and suggestions for tutorials and posts!
More About Me
I’m sure we’re all similar in one way or another. I am a mother of 3 kids (ages 5, 7, 9) and business owner (obvs haha). With the help of my superhero husband, I spend my days juggling the kids stuff (school, classes, shows, practice, homework, medical etc) as well as my work stuff and house stuff and it’s all a little crazy. But when I pause and breathe I’m quickly reminded of how lucky I am to have so much love in this life and to be able to make a living through photography.
The kids seem to grow faster and faster though and every day that goes by, I grow more and more passionate about documenting our lives together. All of it. The pretty portraits, the messy everyday, their firsts, and especially their lasts (when I can get them).
I used to be in corporate finance. I never, ever expected life to lead me here. I never went to photography school and I never thought anyone would ever call me an artist. As a child I was really uncoordinated thanks in part to an eye condition I have (Strabismus) so I just kind of stayed away from the arts & performing arts, though I have always been a huge fan. I had a photographer friend tell me once that he thought I had a “good eye” which was funny to me since neither of my eyes are good in the literal sense but that one little thing gave me the courage I needed to pick up a good camera and try photography. I taught myself and still to this day I encourage people who want to be photographers to pursue a business degree and learn photography on the side. I think it worked out well to have that background. The one thing I regret though is not taking formal classes or having an official mentor/teacher. I feel like I could have saved myself a few years of learning. That’s why I do what I do know!
THINGS I LOVE
Aside from teaching and making photos, I try to squeeze in time with things I love. Though it’s not always easy to carve out that time. But here’s a little bit about that! I’m excited to hear about you too.
